Important: These are maximum permitted speeds. Actual operating speed depends on the specific route, track conditions, railway infrastructure, timetable requirements, traffic, weather, and other operational factors. A train does not always run at its maximum possible speed.

How to Test Your Indian Train Speed

  1. Ensure GPS is enabled on your phone. Go to Settings → Location and turn it on.
  2. Open this website in your phone's browser (Chrome, Safari, or any modern browser).
  3. Tap "Start Test" and allow location permission when prompted.
  4. Place your phone near a window for the best GPS signal. Indian trains often have good reception near windows.
  5. Watch your speed update live as the train moves. The tool shows current speed, maximum speed, average speed, and distance.

For the most accurate results, keep the test running for at least 30 seconds to allow GPS to stabilize. The accuracy indicator shows how reliable the current reading is.

These same steps work with the train speed test online, which runs in any Android or iPhone browser and supports km/h, mph, and m/s — handy when you want to compare an Indian Railways service with a high-speed train elsewhere.

About Vande Bharat Speed

Vande Bharat Express is India's fastest train service, designed and manufactured domestically. It operates at a maximum permitted speed of 180 km/h on upgraded track sections.

Actual operating speed varies by route. On many sections, the train runs at 130–160 km/h due to track limitations, curves, crossings, and timetable requirements. Only select routes support the full 180 km/h operation.

Vande Bharat uses automatic plug-type doors, bio-vacuum toilets, and comfortable seating. The train is designed for semi-high-speed intercity travel.
